LRE Discusses SAF Waste-to-Fuel Project with KCCA and Uganda’s Chamber of Commerce

LRE Discusses SAF Waste-to-Fuel Project with KCCA and Uganda’s Chamber of Commerce

LRE Invest Africa met with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and with Olive Kigongo, President of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce, to discuss the implementation of its SAF project. Among those present was Edson Masekera. The conversation centred on a sustainable solution that transforms Uganda’s waste into clean energy, opening the door to a new concept of clean cities across Africa.

The project represents an initial investment of US$70 million and relies on technology that converts waste into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The fuel produced is destined for Uganda Airlines, creating a national source of aviation fuel and reducing the country’s dependence on imports.

This matters because Uganda currently imports around 14,000 tonnes of fuel per month, so producing SAF domestically is expected to cut costs significantly. Beyond the economic impact, the initiative addresses waste management and environmental sustainability at the same time, positioning Uganda as a reference for clean, circular cities in the region. For LRE Invest Africa, the partnership reinforces its commitment to projects that deliver financial, social and environmental returns alike, with Uganda as the gateway to the wider continent.
